Mission Statement

• To create a website which allows users to play an interactive and functional type-racer game, which has an effective core mechanic of allowing users to practice and challenge the technical skill of speed typing skills.

Inspiration

• Inspired from MonkeyType (https://monkeytype.com), I wanted to create a minimalist and customisable typing test website which allows users to pit against themselves in different time modes.
• This website is simple and clean with customizable words and sentences, recording the user’s high score and words per minute computation as well.

• This website is designed to be simplistic yet addictive as the user is competing against himself. There is no race factor and the text is given in a neat paragraph where you can see all the words.

• After the time has elapsed, a graph will be displayed documenting your typing accuracy, characters and raw results. Mistakes in typing will also be highlighted.

• I deliberately choose the background and colours (akin to dark mode) to relax the user when typing and reduce the eye strain by using low light intensity setting.

• I was also inspired by https://play.typeracer.com/ due to its immersive and interactive multiplayer mode in using cars as the race factor.

• As the words per minute (wpm) count increase, the rate of the car’s movement towards the finish line increases. It ends the typing test after the selected quote is completed and it uses book/movie quotes for the sentences the user has to type out.

• The text is given in a neat paragraph where you can see all the words and your ranking (among the 5 people in the lobby) is given after all the time has been elapsed, along with your time, accuracy and speed in wpm.
